Artist Statement
I’m deeply fascinated by people – especially faces. I experiment with different subjects, but I always return to the portrait. It’s the foundation for most of my paintings.
In other works, I explore a more surreal visual language – paintings that open the door to another universe, where imagination and mystery blend together, often still featuring faces and figures. I have a deep love for nature, especially birds and dogs, and this is something that often finds its way into my work.
I’m drawn to bold colors and take inspiration from David Hockney’s palette and the strong presence in Lucian Freud’s portraits. With many years of experience as an Art director, I have a strong sense of composition, and a love for the photography – something I bring into my painting practice as well.
I have studied under artist Trude Semb for four years.
I mostly work with oil on canvas, and my practice moves between the figurative and the surreal. I paint from my studio at Vøyenenga, just outside Oslo.
